Architecture Education in the UK: The Three-Part Pathway

The United Kingdom has one of the most rigorous and internationally respected architecture education systems in the world. UK architecture degrees are regulated by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and are recognised for professional registration in Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, and most Commonwealth countries.

Becoming a registered architect in the UK (and Malaysia) requires completing three parts: Part 1 (3-year BA/BSc Architecture), Part 2 (2-year MArch), and Part 3 (professional practice examination after 2 years of work experience). The total journey from starting university to ARB registration is approximately 7 years.

The UK's architecture schools are among the most creatively stimulating in the world. The Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) and the Architectural Association (AA) in London are consistently ranked in the global top 5, attracting students from over 100 countries. Other strong schools include the University of Edinburgh, the University of Manchester, and the University of Bath.
